Sheet Mica has been used as a key part of electrical and electronic industry. Mica’s properties ensure it can be cut and shaped into various shapes and sizes as per the shape of electronic devices while being a good electrical insulator and good thermal conductor. Mica has a low thermal conductivity optimizing the use of energy, owing to lowest possible wastage. Industries use the Indian ruby mica as a dielectric in capacitors. While the highest quality of mica is used as a preferred dielectric for calibrations standards, the next best is used in transmitting capacitors followed by receiving capacitors.

Since Mica can withstand electric current, it is used as capacitors in various electric components found in products ranging from toasters, hairdryers, heaters, and microwave ovens to transformers. Mica ensures allows safe operation, with minimum risk to body of appliance and the person using it with adequate insulation. Lithium-ion batteries, circuit boards, semiconductors and high tension electrical cables used mica for its properties.
