Rolled roofing and sloped roofing covers with asphalt shingles, use dry ground mica to prevent adhesion of adjacent surfaces. Mica is widely used in joint compound for concealing imperfections and gaps, and finishing gypsum wallboards. It primarily acts as filler and extender, providing a seamless consistency, and resists any crack formations.
One of the prominent uses of ground mica is in the oil-well drilling industry as an enhancer to the drilling mud system. The coarsely ground mica flakes act as a sealant and bridges the porous sections and also aids circulation of the drill hole.
